Clutch Recommendation?
Clutch Recommendation?
So the clutch I had on my car (Spec 2) was supposed to only have a few thousand miles on it; this was "confirmed" by the person who sold me the car, and even the owner who had the vehicle before him (found him on LS1Tech) but tonight I finished it off. It was right after my first burn out - I had to be pushed out of the pre-staging lanes.
So I read the sticky on clutches, and it seems to be a good idea to buy the clutch kit from AutoZone and switch the disk. But I have a few questions.
Thanks for the help guys.
P.S. - Picture for enjoyment.
So I read the sticky on clutches, and it seems to be a good idea to buy the clutch kit from AutoZone and switch the disk. But I have a few questions.
- Is #NU31265 the correct part number for the clutch kit?
- Does it still have the lifetime warranty?
- I will soon be adding a CC503 to my car and I should be putting down about 350RWHP but I'm not sure where my shift point will be. What is a good clutch disk for that situation?
Thanks for the help guys.

That is the correct part number, but I don't know about the lifetime warranty. I bought the clutch kit and am currently running the PP from it with a McLeod single disc and autozone flywheel. I haven't had a chance to put many miles on it but it all went together ok and the few times I've given it the beans it's held well. I have a few pictures I can email you if you'd like to see it.

not to high jack the thread, but after reading the sticky, can you re use the stock pressure plate and flywheel (getting it re surfaced) and just get a new disk to make it stronger? because the sticky said that the LT1 and LT4 pressure plate were almost identical.
I am quite intrested also. I am in the same shoes. I have the trans out and my clutch slips a little. I want to put a nice strong clutch in there.
so is stock pressure plate the best?.. same as autozone pressure plate?.. does the stock one wear out and not clamp as hard >?
what is a good disk to get?
Thanks

The Autozone clutch is the same LT4 pressure plate you can get from GM for a lot less. The Autozone disk is a very similar OEM organic disk you can get from GM for a lot less but is best for bone stock applicatios. The pressure plate is the exact same pressure plate as Spec, Centerforce excluding the weights, SLP excluding the holes and even Mcleod, zoom etc. In fact Spec just paints them blue, throws a sticker on them and jacks them $200+. The best thing about the Autozone clutch is the lifetime warranty. Guess what, the Autozone TOB is the same too.
There are only 2 pressure plates in existence for LTx cars. The LT1 plate fingers are ribbed and the LT4 fingers are flat, they even share the exact same casting number on the surface of the PP. I am personally not convinced that the LT4 plate is stronger, I have a LT1 plate that has 10#+ more pressure than my SLP plate. You can even have your stock pp resurfaced as a cheaper alternative.

All aftermarket clutches have the exact same LT4 pressure plate right down to the casting number period, they are all made by Valeo or a Chinese knocker. I once saw the chinese knock-off, it had no Valeo logos at all, it came from Advance Auto Parts and even looked better than the valeo. Most of the current Valeo PP's have rough finish and flashing that makes them look bad, bt this is only cosmetic.
There is absolutely nothing anyone can do to beef-up or strengthen these pull type pressure plates, they are what they are. The key to stronger clutches lies in the disk, the aftermarkets makes their own custom disks out of organic, ceramic, Kevlar etc. I had a local clutch maker make me a dual friction composite asbestos/Kevlar disk for my ride, it grabbed good and engaged buttery smooth when I was making 300 RWHP. Now I am much closer to 400 RWHP and I get a bit of slipping when I beat on it.

so are you going to replace your pressure plate?. do they wear out?.. I have looked at mine but I bet its all burned.. if so I will replace it with a autozone one. then get a disk
that disk is not agressive enuff for me (might be enough for you). I want a 4/6 puck. something that will hold 600hp. how much hp you pushing?
like this

but I want just the disk..
do you think thats the same pressure plate as autozone?
Thanks

How much HP does the Centerforce disk hold? I coudln't find it anywhere. With the new setup I should be around 350RWHP but I need something that will hold strong to 500 just in case I decide to get juice. In the description of the Centerforce disk it says this, "These discs are designed to withstand the loadings from high-horsepower engines, but are priced for the everyday driver as well," so I figured they would hold a pretty decent amount of HP.

Yea, im sure pressure plates wear out, its some kind of spring metal. So I will be using the autozone pressure plate
I never heard anything bad or good about spec's.. but I will see if I can find some reviews.. I dont want it going out after 3K miles..
I do know exactly how much the Centerforce clutch holds, but if you look at the description of EVERY Centerforce clutch on that site it has the exact same description. I dont know if I want a puck clutch or not. they chatter and are hard to drive on the road and are hard on the flywheel, I want to find a non puck clutch that can hold 550HP, but I dont think thats going to happen

Looking to have about 350RWHP but a 150 shot is definitely a possibility in the future. I'm going to get the autozone kit, but what plate should I get?
