clutch pedal issues, please help :(

my clutch, which is fine, no slipping, hooks up real good, has a little annoyance with the pedal..

some days (i can only remember it happening since late october/november time), the clutch pedal is totally unresponsive up high, as in u can push it down a centimetre or so, and nothing is there, its not spongy or anything (thats why i dont think there's air in the lines), its just nothing, until u hit the 'clutch' area, i guess u'd call it, where then u have to push on it, like normal...

the weird thing, is the amount of 'dead' space varies, from about 3 cm to almost nothing... u could say that it gets better when it heats up, but that doesn't seem to be a rule with it.... just wondering if u might have an idea what the prob could be

ps. there's no apparant leaks anywhere, and the fluid in the resevoir seems perfectly pull

thanks
ian

I had a varrying friction point in my car. Hopefully this isnt your problem. If you have no leaks on the system, and the pedal isnt mushy i doubt its the master cylander. In my car it was a bent friction plate.

The Pressure plate took care of my problem.

Whats interesting though is, I know a Girl with a 2001 Z28 who is having the problem your having. She says the car feels like a different cat everytime she drives it due to the clutch's friction point changing. I'll have to see how it pans out cause she just got done settling with the dealership and GM over the Oil cusumption Problem some LS1s have due to Piston Ring Problems. She got 4,000 dollars a new engine installed free labor and a 7 year waranty on the new LS1. Funny how they wont help you until you get lawyers involved.

If she solves the problem with the clutch pedal, i let you know.

Still nothing on varrying friction point, THe lady had her car at the shop again , and they still cant track it down. They suggested a new master cylander but didnt find anything wrong with hers so shes not gonna replace it at the current time. I have heard if you drill out the restictor in the braided line, it may help out.
