Clutch for LT1

I'm tired of dickin' around trying to figure out what clutch to get. I cannot afford the Street Twin so that is out even though everyone agrees it's the best clutch.

What clutch should I get?
Spec....
Centerforce....
Hayes....
Zoom....
Stock replacement...

Everyone has good and bad opinions for Spec stg 3 and Centerforces, but I haven't heard any opinions on Hayes clutches. A recent episode of HOrsepower TV said that Hayes were great for LT1's.........

So what do I get?

Re: Clutch for LT1

im looking at the Ram HDX.. its about a spec 2/3 power for 325 from summit.

It should hold most power up to heads/cam

You need to lookup the part # and order it.

Unless you go all out with a street twin, the best setup IMO is the LT4 pp ordered from Jason Cromer for somewhere around $210 and then just take your pick on the disc from SPEC or whoever.

Re: Clutch for LT1

It's a '97 WS6....it has a K&N, Aluminum Driveshaft, Pro 5.0, Borla cat back, and Nitto DR's. I plan to get headers done this season for sure and possibly a cam. I'd eventually like to be pushing 400hp to the wheels.....and not sure how much past that I'd go.

What's the deal with the LT4 pressure plate? Which disc would be best to go with it? Is the package going to run me more than a full Spec or Centerforce kit?

The general consenus is that SPEC uses the LT4 pp with thier disc. Its just painted yellow and stamped with thier name. I havent checked the cost but I am assuming it would be cheaper to get the LT4 from GM and then just get whatever disc you want.

Re: Clutch for LT1

I haven't heard of many Spec failures RECENTLY. I did go through a few of the old stage 3's but they seem to have worked that out in the last 2 years.

I could be wrong so if anyone is still having trouble with Spec, let us know.

Like I said, I've dealt with a few Spec failures and can honestly say that it was one of the best customer service experiences I have ever had.

Re: Clutch for LT1

The lt1 pressure plates are all made by the same company so no matter what clutch you get the pressure plate is going to be the same. There is still a patent on it by vaelo i believe.
