Clutch locks up when sits for awhile
Clutch locks up when sits for awhile
I have a McCleod street twin with a steel flywheel setup and have noticed that if the cars sits for awhile the cluth will feel like it is welded to the flywheel. I can start it in nuetral but if I try to start it with the car in first with the clutch pedal in it will push the car forward. If I try to put it into first after I start it in nuetral it won't go into gear and if I push hard it will bog the car down and I can feel it start to pull forward.
I checked the slave cylinder (removed the spacer and bolted back up) and it is still pushing in the clutch fork.
In order to get it released I have to put it into first and stand on the brake while I try to start it. After a couple of attempts it will break free and then run fine until I let it sit for awhile.
First time it happened I went away for 2 1/2 months and it was locked up, the second time I just haven't drove it for awhile. Both time it took awhile to get it free. Unfortunately the car is parked outside (thats about to change) and I am suspecting that like brakes the flywheel is rusting which is rusting the clutch to it.
Anyone else have this problem and how bad is this hurting my setup? Did I do something wrong on the install?

Re: Clutch locks up when sits for awhile
By design the organic materials used in the street twin disc or any organic disc for that matter will adhere to the flywheel after it has been heated and stored for long periods of time. This problem has a greater chance of happening in places of the country that have high humidity levels like the south and southeast. I recommend anybody that has this problem to periodicly turn on the car and depress the clutch.
