Clutch install problems continue.......!

Now what the hell is going on? I have the transmission hooked up, but now the clutch acts as if I have the clutch to the floor the whole time, I can shift the transmission with out touching the clutch pedal?

Any ideas?

Pushing this damn car off the cliff is my first idea

did you just install a new clutch? I dont know the rest of the story but check the fluid, and make the the release fork is connected all the way to the throw outbearing.

Re: Clutch install problems continue.......!

Well, here is the story!

My brother decided to take my car for a spin and smoked the hell out of the clutch, after cool down the clutch worked fine all except for when I would press the clutch to the floor the the Clutch fork would rub against the pressure plate.

Fast forward to this spring my brother purchased a new clutch and we have the car on his hoist (nice that he has a car lift, but no Tranny jack doh!) Soooo this last Sunday I decided to tear the bird apart and change the clutch.

I have changed the clutch and after the install I was not even able to press in on the clutch because it was laying against the pressure plate. So I decided that something must be wrong with the clutch fork.

Now today I reinstalled the clutch and the new clutch fork, I am able to now press the clutch to the floor and start the car, but it still rubs against the pressure plate, but now I can freely move the shifter in all gears without touching the clutch pedal.

I am up in arms in with the whole situation and not sure what in the hell to do next.

Hope this information helps.

on the clutch disk the raised side faces towards the engine and fits inside the fly wheel and the flat side faces the pressure plate. I believe an lt1 is the only car that the clutch goes in this way. from the way it is fitting sounds like the disk might be in backwards.

Good suggestion, I thought that the first time I had the clutch, but I doubled checked and the clutch disk is facing the correct direction

Obviously I am missing something cause the clutch fork was grinding on the pressure plate before the install and now its still doing it with a new clutch and new clutch fork, unless some how the hydrolics are over extending, but I am unsure how it would be doing that?

did the bolt that holds the clutch fork to the trany come loose? I just thought about that and you replaced the fork so that does not seem right.

Yeah I replaced the clutch fork and I tighten the **** out of that bolt to make sure it was tight, but it still grinds against the pressure plate.

Re: Clutch install problems continue.......!

Its almost like my throwout bearing is sitting too close to my transmission and the clutch fork does not have the right angle on it!

BUT WHY???????????

Could the flywheel be fugged up somehow?

I would think that if a flywheel was that messed up the motor would not run right.

I think you can install the throw bearing backwards but it you it would be on the inside ot the Pressure plate and there would be no way you could get the fork any where close to it.

Re: Clutch install problems continue.......!

this may be a dumb a$$ ? but with out the aid of air tools how to u get the 6 bolts off the fly wheel. was able to drop the transmission real quick no problems ... aside from guerrilla arms and a shot of steriods. I guess the main problem is the flywheel keeps spinning . making it difficult.. anyhelp would be appricitated thanks
