clutch disc question
clutch disc question
i got my new 4 puck disc from SPEC today. when i talked to david at SPEC last week he told me that this disc would hit harder than the 6 puck discs i've been using. i took him at his word and ordered the disc, but got to thinking about it today and now i'm not so sure i understand what he was saying.
the pucks on the new disc are the same size as the pucks on the old ones, and there are 2 less pucks on the new one. i talked to a friend about this today when i was picking up my flywheel at his shop and he agrees that the only thing that would cause the new disc to hit harder would be if it had more surface area making contact with the flywheel.
does anybody have some insight into this? i'm gonna call SPEC tomorrow to get a more detailed explanation.

i talked to a guy at SPEC a few minutes ago and he said the 4 puck applies more pressure per square inch to the flywheel and because of this it will engage harder than the 6 puck. that at least makes some sense when you think about it.
got the clutch and tranny in this weekend. the clutch does not chatter as hard on the initial hit as the stage 3 disc did when it was new, but as it gets closer to full engagement it vibrates like a champ. from 2500 to 3500 rpm in any gear it really shakes, rattles and rolls. i don't really mind how it acts as long as it holds under full throttle after the break-in is done.
