clunking noise

So I notice that when i accelerate from a stop i get a faint clunking noise. I changed the u joints when i added my LS1 DS so I dont think thats the problem. The only thing i can think of are the gears in my rearend. The car drives smooth and fine its only when i accelerate from a stop or go in reverse from a stop.

Do me a favor, take your car out and make a WOT shift, if you get that clucking noise just not so faint and you can feel it as well as hear it then it is your transmission mount. You notice it from a stop, forward or reverse, because there is no pressure on the mount until you start to release the clutch. As soon as you do that the mounts is trying to do it's job but it can not because it is separating slightly as you are applying force to it the cluck is the mount coming back together and the trans "hitting" the trans tunnel.

At least thats what is happening if it is indeed your transmission mount.

Easier way to check the mount. Just look at it. If it looks cracked, replace it. If you can't see anything, try jacking up the tranny slightly.

I don't get under the car unless I have to, lol... so visual check comes after road test, lol.
