Clunk! New Poly trans mount, U-joints? Torque Arm?

My car has always done this, when coming to stop light when it reached like 5 mph it will start to downshift (twice usually) and I can feel it downshift but it makes no noise, just a little lunge. Also when first putting my car into "D" and even w/ my foot on the break as hard as I can it lunges me foward pretty hardm but reverse is not near as bad. The shift from 1-2 is also pretty hard but seems to get softer when it warms up.??..I blew my stock trans mount and put a poly one in. A couple days ago I was driving and decided to investiage this clunk noise I heard every once in a while, I narrowed it down and it only does it in 1'st gear. If I put my a4 in "1" and get on and off the throttle, when letting off while still in 1st I can hear a clunk sometimes. The clunk only comes w/ in first gear andgeting on/off the gas.

My rearend does seem to have a leak, I dont know of the fluid level but could that really cause this kind of problem? If its the U-joints how can I test for it? Also how do I test for torque arm bushings going to ****>?

Thanks fo any help.
