A Clunk

Okay so as in the title I have a clunk from the rear end. It happens during take off, and as well during slowing down mostly all in 1st gear. The switch into 2nd is where the clunk is most audible.

In nuetral (car off) you can hear the rear end make weird noises as it rolls.

In park/nuetral with the car idling you cant hear any odd noises. Once the car goes into any gear, there is a metallic kind of noise that comes from the rear end.

I talked to the parts store, and they told me it could be the universal joints. So im gonna change those parts out this weekend, any write ups or how to's on doing this?

As well would those u joints be making noises while driving at low speeds, clunking into 2nd gear??
