Cleaning clutch disc?

My friend and I are in the process of replacing the clutch in his little brother's 98 T/A and we came across the subject of cleaning the clutch disc after cleaning the flywheel. I guess one of our other friends cleaned his clutch disc when installing it in his 93 Mustang GT. I never heard of doing that before and was wondering what you guys do when installing a new clutch. I'll be putting in my new SPEC stage II in the near future and want to get this detail straight.

Re: Cleaning clutch disc?

I've never cleaned the clutch disk... they are meant to be installed dry... I don't know what brake cleaner would do to the materials...

Re: Cleaning clutch disc?

brake cleaner is designed to dry VERY quickly, and leave no residue

it's not a bad idea, just to make sure no oil is on the disk

i did it to my spec 4 with no problems
