Changing valve body?
Changing valve body?
Well i'm definitely ignorant when it comes to how transmissions work, but i was told that if i change my valve body it might help my "won't shift to second" problem. It's an A4 4L60E, how, where, what, who, when, why, do i do? I was told i can change it without taking the tranny out of my car, and i can do it myself. Please help, i really want to drive this but can't because it won't shift out of first.
Re: Changing valve body?
it "may" fix it, but I DOUBT it. its more then likely either something in the shift solenoid ckt, or the trans needs a rebuild. I would not waste my time/money. more then likely if it was in the shift solenoid ckt, it would set a check eng. light. and, swapping a valve body isnt really hard, but its time consuming and CAN easily be done incorrectly.

Re: Changing valve body?
What happened? If you disconnect the transmission electrical connector on the passenger side does it have a different gear? A bad solenoid won't always set a code, are you sure it is 1st gear or just won't shift AKA Limp Mode? a solenoid can be mechanically stuck and may not set a code. usually if a shift solenoid goes bad you will have 1 & 4 or 2 & 4 depending on the solenoid and or the malfunction. need more details to help!!!

Re: Changing valve body?
The last post i put here describes what is wrong. But now when i floor it, it won't always go into neutral, and actually grips. But when i turn it will shift out of first into the "almost neutral-almost drive" spot. Then when i floor it and it grips first, when it reaches 6k RPM, it will bounce there and won't shift. Also while i'm driving every so many feet it will have a small jerk that is barely noticeable and i can hear the engine change pitches. The jerks and pitches happen at a certain time, like every 3 seconds or so.
