Car won't go into 1st sometimes?

Sometimes when I come to a stop my car doesn't seem to want to go into 1st when I start going again. I push the clutch in, and put the car into neutral like normal.....keep the clutch fully pushed in while coming to a stop....then it almost feels like the clutch isn't engaged. If I release the clutch and then press it down again it will go right into gear. My car only does this a couple times daily at most, and only in 1st gear. Any ideas on what the cause of this is?

Not sure what exactly causes it, but it is common. Not only with the T56, but with other trannies as well. I've just become used to double clutching into first. I do it as a habit, I double clutch into reverse as well. There's nothing wrong with your car.

You might try slipping it into first just before the car comes to a complete stop. If you apply a very light pressure to the stick it should drop right into first as the gears exactly match speeds.

It's a lot like clutchless shifting with the revs matched so the synchros don't work so hard.
