button on shifter wont depress easily
Hello,
This question is not concerning a Camaro, but a 1995 Monte Carlo. A new transmission was installed four years ago and these past two winters a strange problem has occurred. When cold or parked for several hours the button on the shifter will become very hard to depress. I can press it down, but my wife who drives the car daily can not. The button just becomes very hard to press when the temperature starts to drop. During the summer, spring or fall the button functions as intended. I don’t believe it has anything to do with the brake pedal. Any ideas?

I have a 95 Z28 and I had a similar problem a couple weeks ago, the button stuck in the down position and I could not get my key out of the ignition. I lifted up the part of the console where the shifter slides back and forth. I had to take off the shift **** to lift the console panel off. There was a metal rod that went into some type of locking mechanism, it was a black round cylinder with some wires coming out of it. This is what prohibites you from pushing down the button while the brake pedal is not depressed. The rod was sticking so I just put a few drops of oil on it and manually slid the rod in and out of that cylinder. I have not had a problem since. Hope this helps.
