Broken Trans Mount?

Few weeks ago I was stupid I cut the rear section of my exhaust off just before the muffler and when I got in and started driving I noticed the shifter would move when the rpms went up. I know that theres an exhaust bracket thats attached to transmission and I figured that since the exhaust wasnt fastened in the rear anymore that MAYBE just maybe thats why the transmission was moving. so i bought a connector and bolted the exhuast back on but the transmission still moves. My dad said maybe it was the tranny mount but i looked at it and it appears to be fine its not dry or cracked because i have a slight oil leak and the bushing has oil all over it. Can anyone help me?

You'll know if your trans mount is broke if you go over a bump and you see your shifter jump up. Mine was dry, cracked, and had a hole in the side. The only way to really know is to take it out and look at it.

Yea It will move then too. I climbed under the car a lil bit ago and examined it better and realized that there was in fact a decent size crack and even a lil piece missing at the crack I think that may be my problem then. It just seems odd that I didnt really have this problem till after I cut my exhaust. Thanks for the help.

Also, how hard is it to put in a new transmission mount? Can I find directions anywhere on the web?

Its EXTREMELY easy. You dont need a "how to". All you have to do is support the trans, (I did so with a jack), remove the trans cross member, remove the 2 13mm? bolts holding the mount to the trans, install the new one and put it all back together. Very very self explanatory. If you run into any problems (you shouldnt) just post here. I also recommend the prothane mount.

PS: You'll probably need a breaker bar on the 4 bolts holding the crossmember on, those are tough if they havent been removed before. I also forgot to mention my custom y-pipe had to come off to get access to the driver side crossmember bolts, depending on what you have that may or may not be the case. Otherwise this is a 20-30 min job tops.

Ok thats what I figured it would be fairly quick and easy. My buddy said it would take like a couple hours and it would be hard to make sure the tranny didnt slip off the jack or anything but then I figured it shouldnt be that hard being that its still completely bolted to the engine and driveshaft. Thanks Ill post for help if I need it but I dont think I will.

Ok just put in the new mount. It took like 10-15mins. Transmission mount was definitly the problem, it came off in two pieces lol. Thanks for the help man.

P.S. Nice Z you have there, very clean, too bad your the only one with an Fbody lol. In our group we have 5 Fbodies and only 1 mustang but its a supercharged 306 . What kind of longtubes are those and did they make a pretty substantial difference? My buddy is thinking about buying a set of Hooker LT's and doing true duals on his 97 Z.

Hey thanks. I try to keep it clean. Actually thats not even half the fox-bodies. I have around 13-15 close friends/aquaintances who own fox-body stangs from all years 87-93. Then theres the 94 Cobra in the picture, my good friend's 94 GT vert (his 89 lx got stolen), and my other good friend's 02 GT (he sold his 89 GT for it).

I'd say that LTs made a big difference. I'd personally go Jet-Hot because: 1. They're the same as the hookers but better. 2. The coating has a warranty. 3. They're cheaper. 4. Chris Morris is great to work with.

Well I'm glad to hear your install went smoothly and you fixed a very, IMO, substantial problem. That wasn't so bad now was it?

You have to call Chris directly at Jet-Hot. They're a board sponsor and I believe someone's trying to get a GP going. If you just search the GP forum Chris lists the number and his extension. Thats where I got the number.
