Which is better Eaton or Auburn?

All right...long story short. I broke my stocker 3 weeks ago. Got the Auburn pro series and 4:10's put in...4 days later two chunks of spider gear where stuck to my magnet on the cover and my mechanic took it apart today and said the posi is broke! So my question is is should i spend the extra 80 bucks on the Eaton posi unit or what? I'm so pissed b/c with all the money i've spent i could have bought a 12 bolt by now!~ Let me know guys!

Why is Eaton better?

I run an Auburn pro series differential and it delivers nothing but awesome performance!

Stronger = lasts longer. Neither is "bullet proof" though.

Re: Which is better Eaton or Auburn?

The Auburn lacks the clutch surface area of the Eaton (less torque capacity). Its cone type clutch setup is not rebuildable, hence why they offer a trade-in program.
If your Auburn works for you, then wonderful. I would never poo poo somebodys parts, or try to make you feel like they're not any good. But, if you're looking into a purchase or upgrade then I would consider the features of each unit.

It's all in the alignment of the planets man. I opted for the Eaton in my 12 bolt and broke a spider gear on my first pass at the track. The nice part though is that Eaton just sent me a replacement at no cost since it hadn't been a year yet.

Re: Which is better Eaton or Auburn?

Eaton supposedly had a bad batch of spider gears. I broke one the first time out too. Replaced it (no charge) and it's been fine for three years with lots of abuse. The rumor I heard was "bad heat reating" of the spider gears.
