Re: Which is better Buy transmission or rebuilt?

if you get a rebuilt one done RIGHT i dont know of any differences other than maybe better performance from the rebuilt one... but as i found out the hard way your "best" local mechanic may not know how to build a 4l60e RIGHT .. mines in the shop for the 2nd time for the same trans problem.. and this guy is the best transmission builder in my area =/ or he was at one time...
oh and just for reference mine was done with a zoom rebuild kit and went up a size for the clutches... thats what he was suppose to have done anyway, now im beggining to wander because he didnt care at all to take it back and hes usually extremely picky to take a car back.. anyway hope you have better luck than i did!

Get it rebuilt, and rebuilt right!!! It will perform better then a new trans, and if you go with someone like CPT (see my sig) it will be cheeper to rebuild it, and he can work out the best combo for your needs. Like making it more reliable, better shifting, but not like an all out race car shifts that is probably something that you are looking for!! But either way you go, you need to know what your plans for the car will be.

I second the vote for a good Hi performance rebuild and the CPT is the only way to go.

They are also supposed to be very good, Dana is on the board often and seems to be a great guy as well,

Dana seems knowledgable as well, but there are a few differences in what is installed by each builder.

Frank uses a good deal of Sonnax parts, most have been race proven and TASC Force approved (Technical Automotive Specialties Committee).

Dana uses Trans-go parts, and even though trans-go is known for shift kits, they are not great to begin with, and my oppinion is their other products are of similar quality.

After researching this stuff I chose Frank, but I would not try to sway anyone from Dana, they are both just trying to make a living! And both good builders!
