Best Stall With 3.23's

I am looking at doing a stall on my car after a tranny cooler and was wondering what size would best compliment a 3.23 geared car with my mods in sig. I may do a cam down the line and know that its best to pair the stall with the cam, but if I can get a SLP 2400 for the time being would it benefit me at all? The cam wont be for a little while. Its 95% street car daily driver and will see the track maybe 3 times a year. Street tires 100% of the time, so I dont want anything that will toast my tires when I try to have fun. I am just looking for something that will give me decent gains on the street and hold me over when I get a cam until I can move up to a Vigilante to match my new cam and possible head combination powerband. I am looking at the SLP 2400 since I can get it for $150 shipped with low miles, is this a good choice for my current needs and low budget? Thanks.

Good to Hear I can only hope for a gain similar to that. Some say they are useless, but I think I am going to give it a try and for that price if I dont like it I'm not $500-750 in the hole. Thanks.

Do you happen to know the STR they have?

Wait and get a 2800 Vig. Or pick up a used one on the board.

Re: Best Stall With 3.23's

Just PM'ed you, sorry

I just think a Vig that is underrated to 2800rpm's is a bit much for my needs both financially and performance, but then again, I am the one posting questions...

Nice Icon and Thanks for the PM reply.

Now considering Midwest 2800 or Yank 2800.

Re: Best Stall With 3.23's

Did you ever get those PM's I sent ya regarding TC info last month? I typed out some long A$$ replies but never heard back from ya. Anyways, that would help you a lot to determine what might be best for ya...

But I'd say a Vig 2800 would be great (especially when you upgrade the cam later in the future). Although don't expect to hook with street tires. I never could with mine when I had that same verter back in my old LS1. Nitto DR's would be a must IMHO during the spring, summer, & fall. Put the street radials back on for the winter. Besides, you would only need two for the rear and they'd only cost you $280.00 from Speed Inc brand-new. And don't worry, they drove just perfectly in heavy rain when I had them on my daily-driver...

Re: Best Stall With 3.23's

Flash forward nearly a year. I bought a Midwest 2800 and then sold it since I didnt like their customer service and had an overall bad vibes about it. Now I'm about to buy a used Vigilante 3000. Just thought I'd update. Oh and I have 3.73's now, man those are a great mod too.

Yes I got the info on shift extension, ect.

I need to take you for a ride in my car this summer Dustin - you'll find that the Midwest is a very servicable TC

I may get rid of mine this year tho - move up to an Edge 3400 or so. I have nothing but good things to say about my Midwest - even working with Dennis has been fine for me.

Re: Best Stall With 3.23's

This summer?!? I'll be over tomorrow at 530...no just kidding

The reason I didnt like the Midwest service was that it took 3-4 days to get ahold of the guy who knew anything, and when I tried to verify the stall, speed, size, STR, and any other details he basically couldnt tell me anything. He said he "thinks" it was for a LT1 4L60E. I cant rely on that kinda information if I'm putting it in my car. I'm not saying they are a bad converter, since yours is working miracles with a otherwise stock transmission.

I'm looking forward to a Vigilante, I like what Edge is doing, but since I'm a budget racer like you I need to get what I can for the lowest possible price. Saving $175 on a converter means more left over for a cam and some heads.

Re: Best Stall With 3.23's

You'll be happy with all aspects of having a Vig. I got mine in 1996 and its one of the best mods I've made. My 3600 drives like a stocker until you nail it. Been running consistent 1.55-1.57 60's on radials in sleeper trim. I had it freshened 2 years ago when I had trans gone thru and Vicki at PI said that the converter looked almost "new" inside. I got 5 tenths over the 11" LPE that it replaced. Great customer service, etc, etc...

Re: Best Stall With 3.23's

I talked to John and considered Fuddle as well as Andre at Edge, but I can get a better deal on a Vigilante right now. Thanks.

ABA383, your car was part of my decision to go with Vigilante. Its a VERY proven converter and buying a real low mileage used one for $400 with a free restall is just too good of a deal. I have seen too many cars with Vigilantes running awesome times to deny them the credit they deserve.
