Best clutch for LT1? Spec?
Best clutch for LT1? Spec?
Hey guys,
What would you say a good clutch these days is for a lightly modded LT1 with some future plans.
I had a Spec Stage II in my '94, and a friend had a Spec I. His seemed to hit harder, but mine held up OK. I was never totally impressed.
McLeod Street Twin always had a good rep but was heavy.
Not sure whats out now for Lt1s. Any guys with Spec III and Spec IV clutches that daily drive them? If so, are they harsh, or not too bad?
Thanks.

Re: Best clutch for LT1? Spec?
Street twin is my next one in line.. When i up the HP.. But as for now i like my hybrid set up.. Just a LT4 pressure plate with the Mcleod Performance single disk. But everyone is gonna have a different opinion on every set up..
Re: Best clutch for LT1? Spec?
So with an aluminum flywheel and mcleod street twin, is the weight about the same as the stock setup? What about driveability and ease of getting going. I plan on 4.10s again, but not for a little while.
Thanks guys.
Thanks guys.

I have the Spec Stage 4 and I love it. Great clutch for the price. Never slips. I drive my car daily. I think its just fine. I would actually prefer something a little harsher.

What about chatter, is it bad, or doable. My Spec II was there, but not brutal. I could live with it.
Only thing I didn't like about my Spec II, a couple of times when other ppl. drove my car, they got the clutch hot and it would slip. And I'm not talking total bad driving, just a bit slower on the clutch, especially with 3.42s. It held several passes in a row for me on the track with ET Streets , 4.10s and 1.80 '60s. Bad prep track but still decent hook. I plan on a bit more power with my '95 though and looking for a bit harder hitting clutch then the Kevlar Spec II was.
Got a 9" in my third gen, wish I had one for a fouth...
Re: Best clutch for LT1? Spec?
im indifferent about my stage 3. It wouldve been nice if it didnt take 2500 miles to break in. now its alright... definitely doesnt slip but i could do with a little less chatter.
Re: Best clutch for LT1? Spec?
I have zero chatter. I have stock 3.43 gears. I went with the kevlar disc. Stock flywheel balanced. The Spec 4 doesnt have the springs so I dont think you would have to worry about it breaking as easily. I havent launched the car on DR's yet, but it seems to handle all the hard shifting and launches I give it with some decent street tires.

On a side note, just picked up my "new" '95 today. Nice car, 60,000 miles, totally stock, needs intake gasket and pinion seal (same as my '94 did with same miles), but otherwise a very nice car. Got all the parts off my '94 in the sig for it, plus plan on some Kooks headers. But the way it runs, might just keep it stock for a while, too nice to dig into right away, lol.
Thanks guys! Glad to have an LT1 again.
