Re: B&m Ripper Vs. Pro 5.0

I'm almost intrigued by the idea of getting a new shifter. I like my stocker, no complaints at all. But I mind as well finish the trans off somehow.

Not trying to jack......Is there REALLY that big a differance??...

Re: B&m Ripper Vs. Pro 5.0

I have been used to a stock shifter for a long time. I eventually made the switch to a hurst in my Z. It made a HUGE difference. I would highly reccomend changing from the stock shifter to any aftermarket brand.

Later when I got my Formula, I had heard so many good things about the 5.0 that I decided to get it for my Pontiac. I can honestly say that I liked the Pro 5.0 better than my Hurst. The throws were a little bit shorter, although it was a little noisier than the Hurst. I liked it so much that I ended up swapping out shifters and now I have the Hurst in the Formula (my wife drives it most of the time) and the 5.0 in my Z.

I have felt a B&M in a buddy's car, but the shifter **** (thier patented grip "T" handle) made it feel all "funky" so I didn't care for it much. I know you can get different ***** though (I had a custom one done for my Z), and I also know a lot of people love their B&M shifters, so it would also be a better upgrade from the stock.

Overall here, I would say I personally like the Pro 5.0 the best.

I would go Pro 5.0...I have have a Hurst in my car (because it came with it), but I've driven a Pro 5.0 in a 5.0 and it was awesome...If I were buying a shifter it'd be a Pro 5.0.

Thanks Guys, Sounds Like The Pro 5.0 Is The Way To Go. How Hard Is It To Install?

They all are about the same to install. (pretty easy) Even if you are not mechanically inclined, you should have the install done within 45 minutes or less. I don't consider myself mechanically inclined, and it took me 20 minutes.

Re: B&m Ripper Vs. Pro 5.0

I can't speak for the Pro 5.0 (never tried one) but I like my B&M ... works great for me! The 2-3 shift is SUPER easy ... almost impossible to screw up, really!? My buddy also has the B&M, and he's driven his STOCK LT1 to a 13.7 @ 100 in the 1/4 mile (I think that's good for a stock LT1?). I ran a 13.4 @ 107 with mine after swapping out the 4L60E, so I only had a couple weeks in the seat with the T56, but I've only got 3.23 gears in the back, and my tires wouldn't hook that night anyway . I can't blame the B&M shifter for slowing me down at all!!

Re: B&m Ripper Vs. Pro 5.0

I just asked my friend about this a couple of days ago. He's driven both and says that the differences are that the B&M has a shorther throw, but it is just a hair "notchier" than the Pro 5.0. So I'm thinking that for my application, I will probably go with the Pro 5.0 and a short stick. That should give the best of both worlds!

I just cut my stick that came with my Pro 5.0 down a bit, and it ended up absolulty perfect!
