Auto Trans Shift Point

Pretty simple quick question:

When you modify an engine, and by doing so, you move the RPM band higher, increasing peak HP from say, 4500 to 5500+, will an auto Transmission (700r4 in this case) compensate, and shift later right after peak HP? Or do you have to get a shift kit to manually change the shift points?

Re: Auto Trans Shift Point

To make a 700 shift later, you'll need to do some adjusting to your governor. The governor is what makes your transmission shift. It's driven off the output shaft. The governor operates relative to road speed and centrifugal force. B&M makes a great kit to change the weights and/or springs in the governor to change your shift points.
