Auto shifter first gear

Is there something in the shifter I can remove to enable me to get into 1st gear easier. I don't understand why you can slam it back into first but they don't list it. Why does the plate say 2 3 D when there is a 1st gear?

In order to select first gear you need to remove the shifter cover and you'll find a small plastic "stop" or "gate" on the passenger side which keeps the shifter from going back to first. A small hacksaw blade makes short work of the "gate" and you'll be able to manually select 1st...
