Anyway to force the A4 into Limp-mode 3rd gear only?

Is there any easy way to force the trans into 3rd only without going underneatch the car? Some fuse to pull or maybe a single power wire to cut.

My car will not go froward at all when I push the gas but will go into reverse just fine. I am assuming the 1-2 clutch packs or maybe the drum band is broke. But I want to see if I could possibly force it into 3rd just to see if I can move it.

TTT: It would be a great help if anyone could tell me if this were a feasible plan or if I am just wasting my time.

Pull the fuse thats labeled trans. I think its in the panel when you open the driver door on the dash. If not, its in the relay box under the hood. Should get you 3rd i believe with no power to the trans.

Call me dumb...but wouldn't he need a manual valve body to lock it in 3rd?

No... it's an electronic transmission. When it doesn't recieve a signal from the computer, it just stays in third as a "limp" mode so you can "limp" it home.

And I'm pretty sure it's a 1st/reverse band. If that band goes out, you wont have reverse either. Not sure though... maybe i'm think of another tranny.

Man, I wish it was a simple as pulling a fuse... But there is no fuse or relay labed for the trans.

I may be wrong but I don't think 1st and Rev. share a band. I do have reverse.

Does anyone one know which wire(s) in the wiring harness to the trans I would need to cut to force 3rd only limp home mode? Call me crazy but I feel good about this idea. I'd like to be able to drive it home.

The fuse that powers the solenoids also powers other things that the engine needs to run. I don't know if it will work, but you could try disconnecting the electrical connector on the side of the transmission.
