Anyone Stalled a 4L60E w/over 100k?
Anyone Stalled a 4L60E w/over 100k?
Im in the process of buying a Vig2800 for my T/A. The tranny was checked out by a very reputible shop who said that it is fine. It has just over 100k on it, and the converter I am buying still has a restall. I figure I will throw it in (along with a large cooler), run it until the tranny pukes, and get it restalled when I rebuild the tranny (along with a new cooler).
Has anyone done this? Does it significantly take away from the transmissions life expectency?
Thanks,
James

I put a Vig 2800 in my '94 when it was about 100K + miles and it did fine. Having an Edge 3500 installed (along w/ a new beefed tranny, althought the old one is ok) as we speak along w/ a reprogrammed pcm by pcmforless, and I have about 212K on the engine. Didn't experience any tranny lifetime reduction when I did the first install. After >100k on the old tranny I figured it was time to refresh. The new drivetrain setup is in anticipation of a 383 under construction. You will like the higher stall. It does take a little getting used to due to initial hesitation, but the improved acceleration is worth it. Hope this helps!
So you ran around with a stalled a4 from 100k to 200k? If it will last me 20k miles with a stall I'd be more then happy, I just dont want to throw it in, and like a month later trash the tranny.
BTW- I plan to go to the track twice a week or so, I'm sure this will only work against the tranny's life.
Thanks,
James

I think you will be fine as long as you keep it cool. That is the only thing that the converter will cause...more heat. Heat is the #1 enemy of the tranny. I read one time where B&M said that 30 dergrees difference in tranny temp makes the tranny wear out 3 times faster...In the end, only one way to find out. Put it in, and abuse it.

Sweet, I will try to make it, my girlfriend and I try to get out to the track anytime we can. I was there two Fridays ago when some 3rd gen hit a puddle of antifreeze and hit the wall, that was right before my first run of the night, ended up sitting in the staging lanes for about 1 1/2 hour while they cleaned it up, then before my second run someone left there rear end on the track and I got to sit for about 20-30mins. It is a nice track, but I dont like the staging lane setup too much and it seems everytime I go out there, there are more cars
Well see you around,
James
