Anyone here running 4.10s in an AUTOMATIC
Anyone here running 4.10s in an AUTOMATIC
I was just curious if anyone here is running 4.10 gear ratio in their A4's?
If so , let me know how you like them or not? I have a set of MOTIVE 4.10's in my M6, but I was thinking of putting the YUKON 4.10's in my girl's 95 A4...
It has a horrible whine to it and a good amount of play in the rear, so I figure it needs a rebuild anyways, just wondering if I should replace gears with something not as steep as a 4.10, or if you out there with 4.10s in ur A4s like them.
All suggestions welcome....

Personally I like them . but for a DD it might be more pratical to do 373 or 342 .
But match either one of those up with a lower stall 9.5 inch converter about 3000 and youll have a DD monster on your hands thats quite comfortable to drive

Thankyou.... Its not like she is gonna be launching it anywhere or anything like that... Maybe I can teach her how to race...(but she was scared last time at the track)..... Does your car scream at highway speeds or is it tolerable?
I purchased 4.10 yesterday and installing them this week!! I have an a4, not a daily driver. Every performance shop i talked to including summit convinced me since its not a dd. They said for the money get something you are going to notice .. I liked that thought
Don't fear the gear
. BUT, just make sure you're swapping in lower gears for the right reasons
(otherwise your girl might not be happy afterwards
).
I ran w/4.10's in my car for 2 seasons and really liked them. Made quite a few 1/4 mile passes (consistant 13.0's - 13.2's, depending on the conditions) which was pretty nice for an otherwise "stock" car, and yet it still did daily-driver duty with ease.
FYI, I've also had 3.73's w/A4, so I know what the differences/similarities are between the two of them.
Anybody who says "I have 3.73's and they're great, but 4.10's are way to steep" don't know what they're talking about ... that's an assumption or hearsay. They're not much different, other than 4.10's are just that much lower
.
In comparison to 2.73's, either 3.73's or 4.10's will be a huge "wake-up". Even compared to 3.23's, there will be a noticable difference. Highway mileage will suffer a little, but not that bad. City, or city/hwy, you'll hardly notice a drop at all (my average mileage stayed pretty much the same, city/hwy).

4.10s it is... I had them in my old 92 TA and I loved them... her rear needs bearings, and well, I got the gears here, so I fugured I might as well install them..... Now Im excited.
It all depends on your application. I may not have experience with 4.10's in a Camaro but I've done plenty of gear swaps in Jeeps and Rams everywhere from 3.23 to 4.88 but also chaging tire size to accomodate. Anyone can do the calculations and determine in their own mind what is too steep or rather too high an RPM for what they drive. I tend to drive pretty fast and I know where I want the rpm range to sit. I figured that since most of my driving on the highway is between 75mph and 80mph then 3.73 would be tops for me (what I want) with my A4 because that would put me around 2750 and I can deal with that fuel consumption wise. 4.10's would have put me around or just under 3000. Not a huge difference in rpm but makes a big enough difference in fuel consumption with me being on the highway. Now that I have them, I'm glad that's all I did for what I wanted because I don't want to slow down some to get into the rpm range I want. If you don't drive that fast or drive around town a lot then it won't really matter rpm wise what you put in because you'll always upshift when you get the rpms up. It will just shift sooner and more often. I tend to drive the Camaro more on highway than anything else so for me gearing needs to be a little lower. If I just drove to work on city streets and never had to travel to other cities as often as I do then I would have done 4.10 for sure. Again, it was just my opinion, but it wasn't an opinion that was an assumption, hearsay or that I didn't know what I was talking about. I like a lot of gear but I have to consider the day to day expense of driving my car so I had to stay somewhat practical for my use. Doesn't mean it's not the right gear for you or your girl though. I think gear is the best bang for the buck.
