Any information on building an 8.8 rear for 4th Gen?

I know that there was a company, extreme chassis, that was building them but what about having it done?

I've heard that you cut the axle tubes off of our rear and weld them onto the 8.8 diff - does a sleeve have to be made?

Can re-use the stock 4th Gen axles - is this correct? Both are 28 spline I believe.

Has anyone built this before or had it done? I know that a jig is needed, or preferred, anything else that needs attention?

Torque arm - what are some possibilities for this?

I have access to the parts cheap, and labor shouldn't be bad otherwise i'd strongly consider a 12 bolt like everyone else. I need to do this on a budget and right now building an 8.8 is the way to go for me, I just need more information.

Thanks

I know that there was a guy on ls1tech that was making them himself and selling them for 800 bucks for the housing as an introductory price. I think there was some good info over there in the parts for sale section on the 8.8s.

I have an 8.8 and let me tell you for the price and strength a 9 inch is the way to go. I plan to get me a Moser 9 inch housing, Torque arm bracket and 31 spline axles. Then just go to your local salvage yard and get you a posi 31 spline centersection with gears you can live with. You can usually get 3.50, 31 spline, posi centersections off ebay for $150-250. That would be $900 for the Moser pieces and $250 for the centersection and then you are ready to go. Cheaper, easier, and stronger than the 8.8.

Thanks for the info - I think the 9" may be overkill for my use, i'm not putting down tremendous power, and the weight of the 9" would hurt my track performance in the end.

It will be a second option however, if the 8.8 doesn't work out, can't beat the price.
