another name that noise thread
Another T56 noise question
Okay I tried searching but didn't turn up anything really that answers my noise. I have a 95 Z28 M6 with a billion miles...well almost... 178,xxx. Every time I take off I get a horrible grinding sound from the trans. So I tried taking off in 2nd and it still does it. It goes into gear fine but if I start to let off the clutch it grinds untill I get all the way off the pedal. Once I get past the take off all the other gears are fine.
Someone told me maybe the throw out bearing is going, so i'm thinking I should just relplace the whole clutch with all the miles. Just want to make sure it's nothing horribly wrong before I spend 300 on a clutch, and find out that wasn't it. thanks.

Re: another name that noise thread
If you're getting this noise when you start off at low RPMs (i.e. idle), but not hearing it when you take off at higher RPMs, it could be the normal noise that is common with the M6's. Mine has done that since new. Has this noise just suddenly appeared?
Re: another name that noise thread
Well I can't really say if it's just suddenly appeared, I've only had the car like 4 days. It didn't do it at all the first day I drove it. I wouldn't really care about the sound if it wasn't so loud. So is this really normal? If I let of really easy, almost to the point of stalling it it's fine, but if I give it any kinda of throttle at all on take off, it will grind.

The throwout bearing could be the culprit. Hopefully someone else will chime in.
