Aluminum TA Cover worth it or scam?

At $150, it seems kind of expensive.

Does it really do that much for you, or is it a rip off?

Let me know what you guys think.. I'm about to order 4.30s and an eaton posi today.. not sure if I should order one of these too..

Thanks guys!

Re: Aluminum TA Cover worth it or scam?

I have the Summit one from Spohn. I know that in theory its supposed to keep the bearing caps stable. I like it for the better sealing over the stock cover (for the first time in my 20 years of playing with cars my rear end cover doesn't have that little tiny annoying drip at the bottom..), and the drain plug, which makes changing fluid a breeze. Anything that will even remotely add "strength" the the 10 bolt is worth it imho...

My new Strange 12 bolt will have the TA cover mainly for the better sealing and the drain plug.

I've heard from other people that they leak, and that the drain plug is bad because you change your fluid so infreuently anyway that you should want to take it apart and look at the condition of the gears when doing so..

They leak if you don't use rtv on the threads of the preload bolts that go thru the cover...Mine has been fine. I change my fluid 2X a year removing the cover every other time. Its overkill on the lube change, but I haven't broken my 10 bolt in the 10 years I've been racing it (other than a worn out LSD). Its your call. I like the ease of fluid changing and the sealing. I torque it to 25 ft/lbs with just the felpro gasket and it stays put with no leaks. And it does look pretty cool, too...I can't argue with the high $$$ cost though...
