Aluminum Driveshaft?

I've got a friend who is sell alot of parts that he doesn't need and he has offered me a fairly new driveshaft for $75.00. My question is should I use an aluminum driveshaft? I have no idea as to my hp or torque. Is it true you can gain hp with an aluminum driveshaft? I'm thinking about buying it but then again I don't want to install it only to break it.

Re: Aluminum Driveshaft?

Since you're building your car for power, I would stay with a steel driveshaft. My friend broke an aluminum driveshaft (looked like taffy) with a hard launch with ET Streets.

you can gain power from an alum shaft. but real world it is about 1hp and 5lbs of torque.

i would buy it for $75 and then sell it on ebay for $125-150

Re: Aluminum Driveshaft?

Save up for a good 3" steel one from a reputable company...I broke a 1LE shaft in half last year ..No fun at all...
