aluminum driveshaft

Hi everyone, Im sure this topic has been beat to death but Im under the gun and need a solution fast but being at work I dont have the time to search the archives without getting in crap. I need an aluminum driveshaft for my 97 SS M6. I can get a shaft from GM tomorrow for $570cdn from a 98 LS1 and there are two different ones depending on rim size, blah blah blah. They cant tell me if its aluminum or not. Anyone have the correct part number for a factory aluminum shaft that will replace my steel one?

Thanks a lot.

Paul.

Re: aluminum driveshaft

That is a LOT of money (yes, even in CDN) to pay for a driveshaft, especially 98.
Both automatic and manual will work for you. Just as long as it wasn't an automatic with 2.73 gears, because those had a steel driveshaft from what I can remember.

Look at the color, if it's gray, no rust - it's aluminum. Rust = steel.

Re: aluminum driveshaft

rim size had no affect on shaft type...

as madwolf said... the LS1s that had 2.73s stock still had the steel...

Re: aluminum driveshaft

Thanks Guys,

The list price is over $800cdn, my cost being $570, doesnt seem to bad to me considering some of the ford driveshafts I install cost a lot more. If I need it I need it and time is a factor so Ill pay to get it. Thanks for the feedback guys.

Re: aluminum driveshaft

I tried to get a used one but the states is the only place I can find one and being in Canada, it doesnt make sense. I bought the shaft and Im fine with the price, it could be worse, try buying ferrari parts, now thats insanity.
