Re: Adjust tv cable question

What type of vehicle????? Carb/FI?????????? Here's instruction on setting the cable up....

Throttle Valve Cable
The Throttle Valve (“TV”) cable must be installed and adjusted correctly for proper transmission operation. The TV cable adjustment affects shift point, shift feel, detents, and downshifts.

Adjust the TV cable after the transmission has been installed in the vehicle. Adjustment of the TV cable must be made by rotating the throttle lever at the carburetor or throttle body. Do not use the accelerator pedal to rotate the throttle lever.
1. Stop engine.

2. Depress and hold down the metal re-adjustment tab at the engine end of the TV cable.

3. Move the slider until it stops against the fitting.

4. Release the re-adjustment tab.

5. Rotate the throttle lever to its full travel position.

6. The slider must move (ratchet) toward the lever when lever is rotated to its full travel position.

7. Check that the cable moves freely. The cable may appear to function properly when the engine is stopped and cold. Recheck after the engine is hot.

8. Road test the vehicle.

Re: Adjust tv cable question

You do know you need a '93 throttle body, right? '94-up don't have a pivot for the cable. You'll also need a '93 tv cable braclet.

Re: Adjust tv cable question

You need a bracket to hold the cable, and a pivot for it on your throttle body.

Re: Adjust tv cable question

The top cable is the tv cable. The bottom is the throttle cable. Both cables attatch at the cable bracket.

Does the same hold true for a 305 TBI, mine will shift through the gears but at WOT it will not downshift.

Yes it will be about the same setup as what frank from cpt posted. With no kick down I would say that your cable is out of adjustment or your cable is bad.

I adjusted it with the same method as before and i'm still not getting a WOT downshift, how do I determine if it's a bad cable?

Has this transmission ever been built, or the valve body or seperator plate changed?

No it hasn't been rebuilt, it's the factory 700R4 with about 143,000miles on it. I did finish up an engine swap recently and that is the only time it's been seperated from the engine to my knowledge.
