Accurate trans temp readings from inspection port?

Is the inspection port on the drivers side of the 4L60E fairly accurate in determining trans temp? I bought an AutoMeter Ultra Lite series trans temp gauge and want to get it mounted tomorrow.

Pretty safe installing the sending unit here? Seems to be mixed opinion on this.

That is where I have mine hooked up and it works just fine. Mine runs around 130 to 165 deg. with a supercooler and 3000 stall.

Re: Accurate trans temp readings from inspection port?

My car before the cooler was running around 190 to 220 with stock converter. That is pretty high even going through the inspection port. Some people think it is not very reliable reading but I don't care I am using it to monitor the temp it the tranny not the lines. Just my opinion.
