Accel loss on highway
Accel loss on highway
hey dudes, I am in the market for some new gears from my stock 2.73's
I have heard alot about going to 3.73's cause they feel like torque multiplication
but my question is with this affect my accel on the highway, the thing I like about my 2.73's is that it will shift down and just go, i was wondering if i got 3.73s will they do the same or are they mostly from going from a stop
i know street racing is bad, but i do it and alot of it is on the highway
thanks for any input

Re: Accel loss on highway
Leave your 2.73's if you like to run on the highway
. *I'm not supporting it or anything, just saying...
*
I mean, sure, I've got 4.10's in my car (A4) and I drive on the highway all the time. Mileage is a little worse, not doubt!
But what I have to do is manually downshift if I really want the car to accelerate.....otherwise the tranny will usually only drop 1 gear if I just hit the gas
. The problem is though, that all of the higher end acceleration (from just over ~100 mph + ) is in 4th gear (OD) which isn't the best gear to try to accelerate or race in
.
Even when my car was bone stock, with 2.73's, if I punched it at ~80 mph, the tranny downshifted to 2nd gear
, and pulled like a bat-outta-hell 'til redline in 3rd!
(~165 mph
).
Unless you really want the neck snapping acceleration off the line, leave your 2.73's. Just giving you my $.02 from experience

Re: Accel loss on highway
...sorry, had an afterthought:
Get a stall converter (with lock-up), keep your highway mileage, but perform better off the line and even out on the highway
. That's your best bet
