does the ring have the gear ratio stamped into the outer edge? I have no indication as to my gear ratio that I know of but I pulled the cover and changed the oil today and noticed 3:42 stamped on the edge... sounds dumb but Im curious . thanks!

Depends . I don't know if the factory stamped them or not? (can't recall whether any of mine have been or haven't? ) ... and/or if they're aftermarket, if they'd be stamped or not.

I'm pretty sure the set of Mosers I've got have the gear count stamped on them. That's the only way to tell FOR SURE, is to count the gears (ring gear divided by pinion = ratio).

If the gears you're talking about are in your '01 Z28 A4, then 3.42 would NOT be the factory gear, so if YOU didn't know the car had 3.42's (if they really are 3.42's) then somebody prior to you installed 3.42's and didn't tell you!!

 

I really wouldnt mind if someone did but the car was stock when I got it as far as I know. Im guessing the color of the RTV doesnt matter but it was red...
