A4 shift problem

I have a 94 z28/ A4 trans. When I am driving normally, the trans shifts nicely with the firmness I would expect. The vehicle has been well maintained and still pulls very strong and the trans doesn't seem to slip but when I am 'on it', it does not shift from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to third unless I let off the throttle. Instead of shifting, it seems like it is going to neutral until I let off then it shifts. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the wretched world of the 4l60e. Save some money because your a4 is about to take a dump.

A few weeks after I bought my LT1 used my 4L60E started doing that as well. It would shift into neutral around 5500rpm or so and just bounce off the rev limiter until I let off the throttle, then it shifts into 2nd. I dropped down $1400 to rebuild the tranny at the time....I wish I had done more research and looked around for a better shop before paying so much, but it was my daily driver at the time!

What is the condition of the fluid? Except for this problem, does it shift ok otherwise? If it does, you could add the Corvette servo, this will help the 1-2 & 2-3 shift. Larger boost valve would help too, and the "modified" Performance Trans-Go Shift kit. It depends on what you want to do. Let me know?

It shifts fine otherwise and the fluid looks good too. Once I am in 2nd I can get back on the throttle and notice no slippage. I am very....very interested in the parts you mentioned. Can you give me some detials or part #s and or prices. I would like to do these mods anyways even if I get the tranny rebuilt as I have never been satisfied with the way it shifts. (I have owned the car since new)

Thanks!!

I just called the local Oreilly's to try and order the 'vette servo and the guy said he didn't know if that would improve the shift or not but he said there is a chip that I can get with a performance selector switch that will definitely improve things. Any thoughts on this?? It's only 35 bukks. Can I do this as well as the vette servo, larger boost valve , and shift kit? Or just go with everything cept the chip?

Don't get that stupid thing. If your tranny is going, and it sounds like it is, that will only make things worse. If it's what I'm thinking of it just boosts the line pressure to help improve the shifts but that's bad for even a good tranny. The corvette servo would help, it's cheap so wouldn't be a bad idea. If you do get a rebuild, I'd recommend buying that and having the shop install it at the same time.

The 700R4 Corvette Servo sells for $22.55, and the TransGo "modified" 4L60E Heavy Duty & Street/Strip Shift Kit sells for $93.64. Let me know?
