A4 -> M6 conversion - which rear gears??
A4 -> M6 conversion - which rear gears??
Hey guys, After I get my cyl heads (hopefully pretty soon) the next mod I'm going to shoot for is to replace my A4 with a T-56 - but I'm not real sure which gearset to go with. I have another vehicle as a DD, so I can be a bit more flexible regarding NVH... I guess I'd like to hear what you suggest, and why...
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: A4 -> M6 conversion - which rear gears??
I did the swap, went to 4.10s from 3.23s. I love them, some harcore pull
I got Motive gears, had them installed by an f-body shop, they don't make a peep, no whine at all
I daily drive mine too, no problems, gas mileage ain't bad (15-17 city/22 hywy)

So that's what I'm building the car for - a fairly serious street car, that will occasionally be asked to work a bit harder than most street cars... Unless my understanding is way off, the T-56 will allow me to run fairly deep gears (I've thought about 3.73s, but now I'm thinking 4.10s, maybe even 4.30s) in the rear, while still retaining a reasonable RPM at cruising speeds.
Thanks for the feedback guys!
Thanks for the advice guys. From what I've read, it sounds like 4.10s might be just a bit deep, but I'd really like to see if anyone else has any input.
I'm hoping to eventually get the car down to a (roughly) 3400 lb curb weight -less if I can achieve it- running a rear tire size in the 275/50/17 range. I don't think that a combo like this is exactly "cutting edge", I figure there's already been more than a couple of you who've done this.
Thoughts, comments, suggestions?
Thanks again.

I'm also thinking that (just once) I'd really like to take part in the SSCC as well.

Re: A4 -> M6 conversion - which rear gears??
Well.. that depends how fast you plan to go, right?
You can still pull off 200mph on a t56 with 4.30s out back at around 5600rpm, assuming you've got the horsepower to back you up...
I can't really imagine too many camaros going faster than 180 at that thing... can you?

Re: A4 -> M6 conversion - which rear gears??
Heh.
Nice thought, but there are no "200 mph" aspirations here, I'm thinking of keeping it in the 140-150 mph range - that ought to be plenty for my skill level at this stage of the game, and I'm not looking to impress anyone, just have a blast.
I'm really wishing that someone made a set of 3.90 gears without switching to a 9" rear - the 3.73s seem too "laid back" (or maybe too close to stock), & the 4.10s seem a bit too deep...
Thanks again for the replies, any real-world feedback is much appreciated.
