So I'm on my way home from borrowing my brothers jack to finally take care of my tranny problem and I park at the bank to deposit money and all of a sudden my park is no longer park. My reverse was still reverse and my drive and neutral were both neutral!? I put it in park and the car started to roll backwards. I put it in 3 just to get out of the way of another car in the parking lot and drove off. Start driving down the road and notice the CHECK GAUGES light on. Look around and notice my temp gauge is pegged! Pull over immediately to check shift linkage and the radiator. Not overheating and the shift linkage appears fine!? Turn the key to on and off a couple times and decide since the car ISN'T overheating that I'm going to drive it home to inspect alittle better. 1/6 mile away the temp gauge corrects itself and the tranny is STILL weird. Get home shove my head under the car and get a good look at where the cable connects to the tranny. And it looks fine. WTF!?!??!?

Ok so the linkage is fine... It is very strange. It worked PERFECTLY. Now all of a sudden when I move the shifter from reverse to neutral to drive it seems like it's not even attached to anything?

Is there something else to check?? I REALLY don't have money for a transmission.

 

A lot of the feel of the shifter comes from the shifter, itself. Have you looked under the shift indicator panel?

 

Yeah I tore that whole area apart. And I solved the problem, thank god. I don't have money for a tranny.
