Hi I posted a simular post in another section earlier today but someone informed me I should try here. So here it goes I own a 98 ss for a year now and I was comenting that the car gives me trouble going into second at times and ocasonally 4th gear. Now i'm not certain if i'm at too high an rpm for the gears at times or if this is a common problem with these tranny's. I don't know if the skip shift is on or if the car has it or not it has just about 139,000 miles on it. I'm not certain when the gear oil was last changed either as I don't abuse my car I drive it very rarly like maybe once every 2 weeks if it's not raining. So the car realy doesn't get maitnenced as of yet due to the fact that I don't drive it much. And the car was adult owned before me by a 50 year old school teacher if memory serves me but again not certain.Any advice would be appreciated thanks.

 

i have the same problem with my car sometimes, seems to be more prevalent when the car is hot... or the second consecutive WOT run.

you said skip shift... does it only happen when you go from a stop?

and does the light skip shift pop up?

Ya now come to think of it I have seen a skip shift light occasionally when I shift gears not all the time but on occasions and it does seem to give me the most problems when I start off from a light. My problem is I am use to driving 5speeds with longer shift patterns and this skip shift thing is all new to me I usally will wait till like 1500 rpms before I shift but maybe thats to fast for the skip shift? Hi I just wanted to thank all of those of you who helped me out with your friendly advice I purchased a skip shif eliminator off of e-bay a few weeks ago and just tested car out for the first time yesterday. It was a dream come true no more troubles engaging the gears. Thanks to all of you again
