97 Camaro trans feels notchy

My car has 75000 miles on it and Ive had it about a month now. To me it seems like the trans feels notchy when going through the gears. Are these trans just like this or what else could it be. I just changed fluid and put in Castrol ATF in it.

I'm going to guess that by "going through the gears" you have a manual. If so, the T56 is naturally a little clunky. Can you describe your problem in more detail?

Was the car doing this before the fluid change? Have you checked that the fluid level is good on the dipstick after driving it for awhile?

Yes it is a manual and yes it was this way before the fluid change, I did the change cause I didnt know how long it had been since it was last done. It could just be the fluid though not liking cold weather cause its warmer out today and on the way home it felt alittle better to me. Transmission has yet to slip on me, Ive made about 6 passes at the track and alittle playing on the back roads and its never missed a gear and other than few metal flakes in the fluid at change the fluid that came out looked great. Ive not owned alot of manual cars and this is the only Camaro Ive been in so I did know if it being alittle "clucky" or "notchy" was normal for them. Its not any single gear thats like this, 1st to 2nd and 3rd to 4th seem to be the main ones. I may take it to this local shop thats know for F bodies this weekend and let them drive it to see what they think to ease my mind. I love this car but Im sure it was beat on before I got it and have been trying to get some of the problems it has taken care of.

I had Tick performance drive the car today and they said its normal. The big problem is that whoever had the car before me put in a short stick for the shifter and thats transfering that normal notchy feel to me alittle more. They said not to worry about it and change the shifter if I wanted alittle better feel so thats what Im going to do.

Had the same thing with my 97, switched to redline MTL and the shifts are like butter now, 8 per qt put I wouldn`t ever think to use a ATF again! Don`t let anyone fool ya, it`s not supposed to be hard to shift it.

Mines knotchy, it seems to be less knochy after its been driven a lot(like after a long expressway ride). Mine is rebuilt though but it also has a shortstick which I belive does make you feel it more then a longer stick. I've never driven another t56 but my own also, 5th gear does always seems to go in great, and 4th usually is good too but 1-3 are a little knotchy, 2nd gear the most I think. I'm glad someone else noticed this, I thought I was being ****.
