96 Z28 broken clutch fork

Hello everyone, first timer here when it comes to American muscle, used to working on JDM. So anyhooo, I've got a 1996 Z28, 6 speed and the clutch fork snapped. There's only about half an inch of fork left after the part where it clips on the T/O bearing, so there's nothing to grab on to, to pull the fork out. So, how should I go about this? From what I've read, I need to take the fork out before I remove the transmission, and I'm just not sure how that's going to go, since most of the fork is physically missing now. Any thoughts? Easiest approach? Any tips are very much appreciated. Thanks all.

Re: 96 Z28 broken clutch fork

if the fork broke you should be able to pull the tranny. Normally you would pull the tranny out about 1/2" and just grab the end of the fork and pull it out about 1" to release the clip from the "T" bolt and the fork from T.O. bearing. If the fork broke you should not need to do that as the broken off part will stay on the T.O. bearing

IIRC there are no Tremec forks available anymore. I believe Hawks sells a clone one now

Hawks does indeed sell a clone. That was about the only place I could find one when I swapped my transmission last year. So far it's been holding strong mated up to a McCleod Street Extreme clutch behind a 400+ hp 383. Transmission is not that difficult to remove, nor is it hard to replace the clutch fork. Have fun bleeding that clutch though..

Re: 96 Z28 broken clutch fork

some people have welded a broken fork...not sure if it is good metal to weld or not though

the Hawks clone

This is a "supply & demand" situation on $. Back when the Tremec original was available it was about $80
