87 Vs. 93 Octane

I have had my cam in my car for 1.5 years now and I have always put in 93 octane fuel in. I have a MadZ28 tune for 93 octane also. So I decided I was going to fill my car up with 87 and see how much Knock retard I get. I now get .5 degrees more knock at WOT. The odd thing is I got 251 miles to the tank and I just put in 14.4 gal. all using 87 octane. I drive the same routes 60% highway and 40% city. My driving habits never change and with 93 octane I always got 185 to at the most 195 miles to the tank. Do you guy's think this is just a freak thing or does someone have an idea why this happened.
