Exclamation 700R4 Squeal

I have a '93 Z28 with the 700R4. Today I noticed a squeal which sounds like belt slipping, but it's coming from underneath in the transmission. I don't notice any slipping, just a squeal under load. Any ideas?

Re: 700R4 Squeal

Are you positive it's coming from the tranny? It's most likely the serpentine belt slipping....mine does it on hard shifts.

Under load, my crank pulley was coming apart (there's an outer and inner part separated by a layer of rubber), and it was making an awful screeching sound, so you might want to check that out. These noises can be very hard to track down, especially if it only happens under load.

Hope this helps, keep us posted on your progress.

Re: 700R4 Squeal

It's definately not the serpentine belt. You can hear it every once in awhile at idle, in park. More so at a low speed under load. It's definately underneath in the area of the transmission. I'm thinking a torque converter/ring gear bolt? Never run across something like this. I think we'll drop the cover and check te coverter bolts. Thanks for the reply.
