700R4 shifting options
700R4 shifting options
I have a 700R4 with 129K miles on it in my 93. I don't know if it has ever been rebuilt, but it shifted OK during the little time I had to drive the car.
The car is cammed and put down 348 RWHP/345 RWTQ through full exhaust. I am thinking of adding an electric cutout and see what it would run on slicks at the track.
The stall is fresh, an SLP 2400 and it has a 28K tranny cooler.
After the cam, the tranny shifted right around 6K. The cam peaks around 6050 RPM. I don't know if it's even worth racing, shifting that low. So my question is, should I even try it or do I risk blowing it up on the first run? What about manual shifting? I've never done it before with a 700R4 and don't know how easy or complicated it is, to catch the right moment. (IIRC, it takes some time for it to shift after you switch the gear)
So what do you think I should do? Leave it alone and find a built up tranny first or what?
Thanks!
