700R-4 Shift Points
700R-4 Shift Points
Have a 93 which still has the old non computer controlled 700 in it.
My shift points are higher than stock.
I know I have to modify the govenor and it is somewhat trial and error.
My question is what on the governor changes what. I know it is possible to alter the weights and the springs or to change them out to lighter ones. Does one do the part throttle shifts and one does WOT shifts.
Trans has always shifted somewhat earlier than I wanted it to. TV cable is set properly and is not the problem.
I changed one spring of the two to a lighter unit and it made the part throttle shifts later as I wanted but now it hits the rev limiter before it shifts. I tried another prom chip with a higher rev limiter and it is about 300 more rpm than I want based on the cam and rev limiter in the chip. Car will shift if I let out of the throttle for a moment and then get back into it.
TIA.

B&M makes a governor recailabration kit. It comes with different springs and wieghts. I paid like $30 from summit for it. It is a pain in the but adjusting it but works well. I found the best way to do it is to use datamaster to recorded the rpm it shifts at and go from there.
