6 Speed problems with shifting

Anyone experience a problem with the 6 speed like this;
Car is cruising in 5/6 gear and is put into nuetral, coasting up to a stop. When he goes to put it into first gear it doesn't want to go in very easy, he actually says it goes in hard. Is this because the syncros are spinning at engine speed and they need to slow down to allow it to shift into gear? Are there any TSB's out for this problem, if it is a problem, it's a 2000 SS Camaro?
Not my car, a guy here in Hawaii that was asking some advice that isn't computer literate.

Regards,
Tony

yes, depending on his speed, the tranny does need to "spool" down. If he has any gear changes...i.e. 4.10's etc, he'll notice differences as to when it will downshift easier. hope this helps

If you can reproduce the problem consistantly, try releasing and pushing the clutch before trying to put it in first. If it goes in easy, then you have proven your case.

Otherwise I might suspect the clutch is not releasing fully. How does it go in reverse?

as far as i've seen...the car usually doesn't like to go into a gear whose speed range is far below what the car is traveling at that moment. although there is the hellacious 3-2 misshift when trying to go to 4th......

but yeah, mainly in 1st, if i'm trying to get the car into that gear, the car basically allows it once i'm going under 45 or so.

easily! clutch in, stick over to far right, then down, release clutch and apply gas.

MY car does that too. Infact there are sometimes when it won't go into first even after I've stopped. I have to release the clutch and then push it in again. Then it goes into gear like normal. I don't know if it is messed up or what. There is no grinding or anything like that.

......Yes I'm not alone!!!

No syncro's into first or reverse. Never have been, probably never will be. Spelled out in owners manual. Just move the shifter to neutral, let out the clutch, then push in the clutch and it will go right in. Everybodies does it from time to time. You just get used to it once you know what it is.

Thanks for the response guys,

I asked him last night when I made the post if he "Double Clutches" while he is stopped. He said that he has with no effect to allowing it to go into first. He told me also that he even had to shut the car off one time at a light to get it to go in. I asked him if I could take it for a drive to see . He didn't think that it could hurt, so I get to take his SS out today and check it out.

PS. Is this what I can expect when I install the 6 speed in in my IROC, in two weeks?

Sorry Phantom TA, your right I didn't read the sticky, till now.

Another thing to mention about this problem, he said he replaced his hydralic slave cylinder about 8000 miles ago and it seemed to have fixed the problem.

its normal... my old 92 geo tracker(5 speed) anything over 10mph was HELL to go into first, but was a good thing for that, considering 10mph was redline for 1st
