6 speed conversion

Does anyone know if it is possible to convert to six speed using a 95 z28 auto and a 94 formula six speed car. If it is what all will I have to use from the six speed car. I planned on using the engine trans engine harness and ECM all from the six speed car and hope to make it work with the 95 auto interior harness.

Very doable. Master and slave cylinder, T56 crossmember, pedal assembly, shifter + M6 console is just about all of it. There's a few guides floating around on the web - try a search. If you have a parts car available that makes life very easy.

Re: 6 speed conversion

I do have both cars. I was looking for an engine. Came up with a complete wrecked formula with six speed with 67000 on the clock. Everything is in the z now. It cranks but won't start. I have power to the coil. I checked for power going to the fuel pump. It tests about 7 volts going to the pump. I then checked at the signal wire on the relay also got the same 7 volts. Am i overlooking something? Or could it b that the 95 auto interior harness is not comparable with the 94 6 speed engine harness and ECM?

Re: 6 speed conversion

Check your grounds and if any doubt, run a separate (redundant) ground wire for troubleshooting purposes. If you're losing 5+ volts in your crate, got to sort that out first.

Re: 6 speed conversion

I have checked the grounds that I know it has. Ground from batt cable to inner fender, from engine to left side front frame rail, ground at relay and ground at fuel pump harness above the axle. Just for the record both cars were rust free. I don't think corrosion would be an issue. Is it possible that it should be blamed on the wire harness compatibility?

Re: 6 speed conversion

Update for everyone conversion is complete Only small differences in the harness. One of the injector power wires was different and the 95 harness fed the constant power for the ECM from the other fuse panel. Besides that it was pretty simple
