4th gen driveshafts
4th gen driveshafts
Will an aluminum ls1 driveshaft fit my 97 lt1? And also does it matter if it is from an automatic car (I have a 6 speed), that is, are all 4th gen driveshafts interchangeable?

Yes, it will fit great (regardless if it came from a manual, automatic, and if your car is a manual, or automatic)

Re: 4th gen driveshafts
It is not as strong as the steel unit, but the aluminum one seems to be better balanced from the factory; it's natural Frequency is higher than the Steel stocker so it takes more RPMs for it to turn into a vibeshaft like many of the stockers turn into.
If you are running sticky tires and have an upgraded drivetrain, then an aftermarket shaft is your best bet. Personally, the LS1 shaft did nothing for my car, so I went *****-to-the-wall and spent the $400 on a Denny's Nitrous Ready Shaft, with the lifetime breakage guarentee; plus lifetime balancing to over 8K rpms.

Re: 4th gen driveshafts
It's about a 15 min install...easy. Just did mine....all vibrations gone now. I don't take mine to the track and I'm only lookin to do 350hp max, so I figure the alum will be fine. Nice upgrade for daily driver over the "vibe-shaft" and much lighter.
4 bolts, slide old out, slide new in, blue loktite and tighten em back up. Simple as that.
