4l80E + OBD1 on a 96 t/a?

Is it possible? I have a 96 lt1 and wanting to be able to drive my car on the street, or drive it to the track which is about an hour away. I have a th400 but do not want to be driving 70mph at damn near 4,000 RPM. What I really want to know is if can be done, what is needed, and what is the real cost of doing the swap. Car is an M6 car.
