4L60E or TH400
4L60E or TH400
Ok heres the deal.
MY engine makes about 500 fly wheel HP @ 6900 RPMs. I want to shift at 7000-7100 RPMs. I need to replace my stock transmission soon. VERY SOON
transmissioncenter.net has a 4L60E that they claim handles 700 HP and 700 TQ. But I plan on spraying a 175-200 HP shot of N20 at the track sometimes. I wont be using it on the street because I will have to run race fuel to use the N20.
The other option is the TH400, it is proven to shift firm and not fail at 7000+ rpm shifts. and handle near 1200 HP even with the Gear vendor unit.
I like the 4L60E for the following reasons
-I can control it with the PCM
-Fully Automatic
-OVERDRIVE as this is a daily driver
-Direct replacement, no modifications needed.
I like the TH400 for the following reasons
-WIll handle a TON of power without failing
Things I dont like about the 4L60E
-worried that I will break it if i use the N20
-worried it will slip and shift sloppy at 7000 RPMs
Things I dont like about the TH400
-going to cost me $500 more for a spohn torque arm
-going to cost me $200 more to have a new exhaust fabricated off the Long Tubes to go around the spohn torqe arm brace.
- going to cost me $2200 more dollars for over drive from gear vendors
-everyone tells me Im going to have to make it a manual valve body.
I want the 4L60E, for a total of $3100 I can get it with a 9 1/2 inch 3200 stall converter as a package.
Does anyone have an experience with 4L60E's handling big power? It will only need to handle 500 fly wheel HP and 440 fly wheel TQ on a daily basis. and an occcasional 175 HP N20 blast with race fuel at the track.
What do I do ???? Im afraid the TH400 will not alone cost more ( estimated $5000 in parts alone ) but will become a nightmare.

The "Limited Street" 4L60E should fit your needs. Go to http://www.pro-built.net/index.cfm?f...&productid=177 and see. Let me know if I can be of help?
