4l60e or t56 conv?

ok guys, i have been doing a lot of reading and getting points from both sides. I have a 95 z28 with the 4l60e.. It sucks. However i read about the t56 swap and all that. Over all what does everyone think? Is it worth it or not... should i just get a high stall converter and shift kit for my 4l60e?Also does anyone have the stuff for a swap, i looked at an old post with some places that sold converstion kits but none of em work. please let me know your guys opinion thanks a bunch.

Depends what you want your car for, or want it to do .

I just blew and A4 in mine a couple months ago, and did the M6 conversion. I've always been really into drag racing, so I was going to just rebuild the auto and put in a stall, and be done with. BUT, I've gotten into trying out road-racing (the ultimate cause of the A4 failing), and I really like it and want to try it out some more. As well, I debated get an auto or 6-speed before I even bought my car over 4 years ago! So at this point, I decided the swap was worth it for me .

Cost difference surprisingly wasn't much, considering the cost of a well-built transmission + the cost of a brand new stall converter. I spent just over ~$3000 CDN$ for everything I needed, INCLUDING the ~$700 shipping cost to get a tranny from Florida to Oshawa.

Am I happy that I did it? Hell ya . But would I have been happy with a fully BUILT automatic with a stall converter?? You bet (except there's no way I was going to take that back out onto a road course and risk blowing it up again ).

The conversion isn't "difficult" or too "expensive", so you just have to weigh out your reasoning one way or another .

As stated above......it all depends on what you do with the car and and what you WANT to do with the car! If it's 1/4 mile for you, then go Built A4 with stall converter (I hear CPT is AWESOME)....if it's auto-x, then go M6. I've had both.......I can't drive a manual for any long periods of time now due to a knee injury. IMHO an M6 is more entertaining to drive......BUT an A4 can be made quicker and more consistant. Final choice is yours!

I'm the same boat as you... my A4 has been failing on me constantly. I'm wondering if I should get a fully rebuilt one or just do the M6 conversion

I did the swap in my 94Z after 3 4L60E's , and I am seriously considering doing it on my 95Z(4L60E just went out on it last week.)

I'm just going to say, DON'T get the T56 just to "avoid" tranny problems. I think a PROPERLY built 4L60E should be just as / more reliable. Heck, the T56 I got needs a 2nd gear synchro replaced, and supposedly it was already re-built once already?! So they're not "bullet-proof" either .

Talk to Frank @ CPT ... that was the route I was going to take 'til I decided I really want to try the road racing more .

Re: 4l60e or t56 conv?

I took a perfectly good 4L60E out of my Camaro and replaced it with a perfectly good T56. Best thing I've done to the car yet. Makes the commute much more entertaining. I actually look forward to catching the red lights now. Six gears, Hurst, and a loud exhaust. Who needs a radio. Paul
