Exclamation 4L60E No shift at all???!!

Ok I got a 96 camaro with a 4l60e and a 3600 stall. The car has no forward gear, the tranny goes to park reverse and neutral. The tranny didnt give any signs of slippage. The tranny oil does not smell or look burned, what can be wrong? some tranny sensor?

Does it go forward if you put it in manual 3rd? If so, it's the input sprag. If it doesn't go forward at all, it's something in the forward clutches. Most likely a cracked forward piston.
No, this won't be anything electronic.

Anywhere between $700 and $1400...Depending on what rebuild level you're interested in

Most places won't just repair these problems without wanting to rebuild the transmission.

Thanks,

Make sure you find a GOOD shop to do it. I had a shop around here do it that I didn't feel quite right about.....but they're the only one's around. Tranny lasted 10,000 miles....had an 18,000 mile warranty and they wouldn't honor it. Second time it went, I went to another shop about 20 miles away....lasted 15,000 miles with a 20,000 warranty....once again, wouldn't honor it. I didn't beat on these either since at that time it was my daily driver. You'll find that tranny shops are almost as much on the up and up as a dealership....they will stop at nothing to screw you. Also, those were both stock rebuilds and cost over $1200 both times. This time, I'm doing it myself.

Don't put us all in the same category. I race these things, also. I'm also a member of CZ, and post in other areas besides "drivetrain". We're an extremely honest shop. I have no problem pulling transmissions apart while the customer watches. I also have had numerous customers stand and watch as I assembled their transmissions.

You are correct for the most part, though. They're are many crooked transmission shops in existance.

$1200??? You could've got a "Race" rebuild from us for less than that.
